Week 4 - Stu Duval's inspired
This week's Play, Create, Make is inspired by the amazing arthur, Stu Duval, use our story map to spark your creativity and imagination.
OPTION ONE: Use the playdough or lego to create a character or setting from your story.
OPTION TWO: Design and make Professor Zacular's vessel the "Karate"
OPTION THREE: (IPad) Publish your story in Pages or Book Creator.
OPTION FOUR: (iPad) Create Poison island in Minecraft - what does Professor Zaculars' liar look like? What other secret or dangerous places can be found on the island.

Compulsory Activity - Visit to the stormwater reserve to sketch and observe. ( Matua Brent's Year 4's then Matua Brent's Year 3's this week )

Week 10 - The Battles of Gate Pa and Te Ranga
Pepeha Practise ( Must do )
Activity 1 - Make a black paper silhouette of the scene before the battle.
Activity 2 - Make the Pa in the sandpit with sticks and sand.
Activity 3 - Minecraft - Make the pa site with the trenches.
Activity 4 - Create the pa with lego.
Activity 5 - Make a ship or waka that might have used by the British to transport their troops to battle out of construction materials.
Activity 6 - Make a memorial/po out of play dough to remember those who died in the battle.
Activity 7 - Make a piece of music that might describe the tension of the battle using the instruments.

Create your own version of a taniwha using the maker space construction materials (boxes etc)

Use the musical instruments to create a piece of music inspired by the story. ( On the deck )
Option 3: Act it out
Take the dress ups and in groups of no more than 4 act out the story. ( On the concrete outside )

Paint a picture from the story using water colours. - Maker Space
Option 5: Minecraft
Make a scene from the story in Minecraft Creative.
Option 6: Chalky Taniwha
Make a huge collaborative chalk drawing of Te Pura on the concrete outside.

Create a scene or picture from the story on sketch school.

Week 2 - The Colour Monster
1) Emotions Board Game:
Your challenge today is to make a board game to help your colour monster learn all about their emotions.
You could have positive rewards (e.g you did your rainbow breathing when you were angry, move forward 2 spaces) for monsters who manage their emotions in a positive way and consequences for monsters who loose their cool (e.g move back 3 spaces for hitting someone).
You may want to include things like chance cards or reward cards.
Choose a group of 2 or 3 people to work with, collect a template for your game and get creating. Be very clear with your instructions!

2) Art Collage
Let's get creative! Choose a colour from one of the Colour Monster emotions.
Use the materials provided in the maker space to create your own monster picture (just like the book) using only the colour you have chosen. Try out different styles and techniques (eg folding, cutting, painting, drawing, etc) to create your collage picture.
There are examples from the book up on the wall to give you inspiration.

3) Lego Challenge
These colour monsters are not ready for learning in Matarawa. Help them turn into a calm green monster by making something out of lego that will help them calm down and be ready for the day. It could be a toy, something with wheels or some kind of device for relaxation. Think of what you use to calm down and build something like it.
4) Emotive Music/Dance
The Colour Monsters are looking for a creative way to share how they are feeling through movement, but they need your help. Your challenge is to create a dance to help the Monsters express how they are feeling.
In groups of 2-3 pick one of the songs below and create a 30 second dance that shows one of the emotions, Happy, Sad, Angry or Calm.
